Mission Statement
Our mission is to connect the community; building relationships and healthy bodies on a foundation of sustainable agriculture and environmentally friendly practices. We envision a garden that will nurture, educate and inspire neighbors, especially the children to get outdoors, to eat nutritious food and to give back to the community. We offer raised and inground growing beds, butterfly garden and beehives. We our providing food for the food pantry, education to the schools and community and appreciation for the usable land as we approach our 3rd growing season. We are supporting the Westchester Food Pantry by providing our produce to supplement the provisions offered during the growing season. In 2017, we were able to donate over 400Llbs of fresh, organic vegetables and herbs to the families who benefit from the food pantry.
Description
Our current Community Garden Committee is comprised of educators, a Certified Permaculturist-Contractor, an Herbalist, a retired Florist/avid gardener, a volunteer Firefighter, and a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, Westchester and Hillside working parents who raise bees, pull weeds and have an adoration for the outdoor beauty. We believe that the love and passion we feel for our community, the environment and the potential of this garden, will impact the Hillside-Westchester Community in a huge and positive way.
