Hospice Community Care, the Heart of your Community, is experiencing unprecedented growth in the Peninsula area (Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, James City County or York County). We have a great need for dedicated volunteers to provide friendly visits for our terminally ill patients who reside in the Peninsula area.

Our mission is to provide dignified end-of-life care and quality services that allow our patients and their families or significant others to live life richly, deeply and meaningfully for as long as it may last and to die with dignity in the setting of their choice. As a Friendly Visitor Volunteer with Hospice Community Care, you would facilitate this mission by spending quality time with a patient on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. Friendly Visitor Volunteers visit patients in whatever setting the patient calls home, i.e., a nursing home, an assisted living facility, a retirement community or a private home or apartment. During a visit, Friendly Visitor Volunteers might read to a patient, play cards or checkers, take the patient outside on a pleasant day or simply hold the patient's hand to provide comfort and support. Friendly Visitors Volunteers provide an extremely valuable service for our patients and their families.

All Hospice Community Care Volunteers must pass a background check, a TB test (at no cost to you) and attend training. *You must be at least 18 years of age and have a current driver's license*. Does this sound like a volunteer opportunity that interests you? Please call 1-800-409-9094 and speak with our Volunteer Coordinator, Cynthia Vereen-Anderson or simply reply to this Volunteer Match ad. This volunteer opportunity is not open to persons who are court ordered to perform volunteer work.

Training takes place in Newport News and once you've completed training, you will volunteer in the Peninsula area.
