Stand Down

A Safe Haven Foundation’s 5 th Annual STAND DOWN will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at our warehouse, located at 2501 West Taylor Street, Chicago, IL 60608. The event is supported by Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs, and dozens of corporate and foundation agencies. The mission of A Safe Haven is to help individuals aspire, transform, and sustain their lives as they transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency with pride and purpose. We provide the tools for each individual to overcome the root causes of homelessness through a holistic, scalable mode. The Stand Down aligns with our mission by helping veterans overcome barriers, access services, and gain stability.

A STAND DOWN is when hundreds of homeless and at-risk veterans are provided access to a wide range of services by representatives from academia, workforce development, social services, and the health care industry. Veterans are greeted with honor, respect, and open arms. They are offered nutritious meals and provided with attentive care. The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs will assist with registration to verify/confirm veteran status, and IDES personnel will evaluate veterans through a triage format for those most in need of services.
