Lantern Community Services champions the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who are formerly homeless or have recently aged out of foster care recreate their lives. Our programs with proven results in health, employment, education and life skills are delivered inside our residences and tailored to each person’s needs.

Lantern is looking for volunteers who can give 2 hours each week to help serve lunch to the residents who live in Lantern’s supportive housing. This is a great way connect with our residents! This opportunity is available immediately, and in three of our locations:

  • Bushwick location: Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, 12pm - 1pm
  • Washington Heights location: Wednesdays and/or Fridays, 12pm - 1pm
  • West Bronx location: Wednesdays, 12pm - 1pm

All of Lantern’s locations are accessible by public transportation.

Great Lantern volunteers are non-judgmental, reliable, and really care about the problem of homelessness in New York City. If that sounds like you, we'd love to meet you!

Lantern Community Services champions the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who have been impacted by or threatened with homelessness, as well as those who have aged out of foster care.

Description

Lantern is grounded in the mission to champion the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who are impacted by or threatened with homelessness. Our objective is to make sure that our residents can find and maintain stable housing through emergency shelter and supportive housing. Our on-site social services bring residents and staff together to create opportunities for personal recovery, wellness and growth. We have 16 supportive housing buildings located in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx, and three shelters based in Manhattan and Queens.
