With a great season underway, help us complete our seasonal Noxious Weed program. Spend one last day up in the Mt. Rose Wilderness and help work to remove invasive weeds from the Mt. Rose Wilderness. Using shovels, we can most effectively reduce the population of Musk Thistle. Invasive weeds have many impacts on the native environment. From out-competing for resources to reducing water quality. The work is extremely rewarding and you get to experience some truly amazing country, all in our backyard Wilderness.

Once again, we'll be removing invasive weeds up the Hunter Creek Draining of the Mt. Rose Wilderness. We meet in the mornings at the Michael D. Thompson Trailhead. We start each Weed Pull with a 2-3 mile hike and spend the cool hours of the day digging up Musk Thistle Rosettes. If you haven't experience Mt. Rose Wilderness, this is the perfect introduction. Join us for a great outing into our Public Lands and RSVP today!

In addition to the weed pull we will be a hosting a Pizza Party to thank all of our wonderful Weed Warriors! Anyone who has volunteered on a weed pull this season is invited to join and celebrate our success and hard work.

Mission Statement

Friends of Nevada Wilderness is dedicated to preserving all qualified Nevada public lands as wilderness, protecting all present and potential wilderness from ongoing threats, educating the public about the values of and need for wilderness, and improving the management and restoration of public wild lands.

Description

Are you interested in volunteering outside, exploring remote wild lands, taking care of your local public lands, making friends? Join Friends of Nevada Wilderness on a volunteer stewardship trip! Together we can keep our public lands and wilderness areas safe and clean. We would love to see you at our next stewardship project.

Friends of Nevada Wilderness organizes volunteer restoration trips to help wild landscapes recover from noxious weeds, illegal vehicle use, and other impacts (because official designations do not guarantee on-the-ground protection). Our volunteers also "adopt" areas to monitor their condition and advocate for their protection. Volunteers get to work with others to heal our wild places. These trips are fun, rewarding, and can be a great way to meet new Friends. All volunteers are welcome! We have volunteer opportunities for every skill level, ranging from getting out on the ground and pulling fence, picking up trash, naturalizing old roads, planting seedlings, monitoring wilderness, and yanking invasive plants to helping with outreach events and office tasks.

By helping citizens actively restore wild lands, we help build in them a greater sense of responsibility and stewardship.
