December After Hours
Live bands and video projections during December's After Hours event.

The next After Hours at the Speed is on Friday, June 21!

Evening hours are happening at the Speed! Come in to join us in the fun and artistic activities! On the third Friday of every month, the Museum is open until 10 pm. Each After Hours event comes alive with an eclectic mix of music, performances, cash bar + food available by Wiltshire at the Speed, and of course art! We have had tremendous community response to this event series. We have received more than 1000 guests at each of the monthly events!! We NEED your help to make these events the best possible. Available volunteer opportunities during the event include the following:

Coat Check (6 volunteers needed)*
Special Events Attendant (6 volunteers needed)*

*Special consideration will be given to groups of volunteers who want to volunteer at the same event.

The volunteer shifts are scheduled between 5:00PM to 10:00PM on each third Friday during After Hours. The shifts are 3-4 hours each depending on the different opportunities. This is a great opportunity for anyone needing to satisfy service hour requirements. You will receive free admission to the After Hours event. If you are interested, please view opportunity descriptions and submit a volunteer application on Speed's website: http://www.speedmuseum.org/about/get-involved/volunteers/

About Speed Art Museum

Mission Statement

Where art from around the world invites and inspires diverse audiences to experience the power of creativity.

The Speed Art Museum, originally known as the J. B. Speed Memorial Museum, is Kentucky’s oldest and largest art museum. It was founded in 1925 by Hattie Bishop Speed as a memorial to her husband, James Breckinridge Speed, a prominent Louisville businessman and philanthropist. The museum is supported entirely by donations, endowments, grants, ticket sales, and memberships. The focus of the collection is Western art, from antiquity to the present day. Today, The Speed Art Museum is currently undergoing another major transition with an unprecedented $50 million expansion project that will welcome visitors to a space that seamlessly integrates art and nature with a new Art Park and public piazza . The expansion will also provide flexible exhibition spaces to present the Speed's collection and new acquisitions for the public, along with new facilities for collection care and research.
