The 27th Annual Letter Carriers' Food Drive is Saturday May 11th, and we need volunteers! This is the largest National food drive of the year and will re-stock the Greater Lansing Food Bank's warehouse for the summer months.

Sorters at the postal sites are needed, but what we really need are DRIVERS to follow specific routes (particularly in the 48910 area code) and help pick up food from residents. If you can't drive we also need a couple of riders to ride along with a driver and pick up food from households. We hope you can help!

All interested volunteers should sign up through the Greater Lansing Food Bank website (copy and past link below, and scroll down to "NALC Food Drive May 11th), or feel free to click "I Want To Help" and we will be happy to assist you. Thank you for helping in the fight against hunger!

Mission Statement

Greater Lansing Food Bank Mission: Partner to alleviate hunger one meal at a time, to create a future where everyone has access to nourishing food.

Description

The Greater Lansing Food Bank is a non-profit organization that provides emergency food to individuals and families in need in Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Gratiot, Shiawassee, Isabella and Clare counties. Food is distributed through an extensive network of food pantries and community kitchens located throughout the region. The Food Bank annually serves tens of thousands of people, many of them seniors and children. Our recipients also include the "working poor," those individuals who are employed but don’t earn enough to meet housing, health, transportation and food needs.

Our ability to feed families and individuals through pantries and community kitchens is directly related to the generosity of the citizens in the community. We obtain donations through the annual Envelope Campaign, Empty Bowls Lunch and Dinner, Empty Plate Dinner and Auction and through contributions provided throughout the year by individuals and businesses. We also receive donations of food through food drives sponsored by businesses, organizations, churches and individuals.
