These are excellent volunteer opportunities for students in animal science, equine science, or the equestrian club to gain valuable experience related to their course of study and interests at New Castle County’s Department of Community Services (DCS), Carousel Park & Equestrian Center.

Assist with offering private and group lessons and the Freedom Reins Therapeutic Riding Program. General barn work from walking horses, mucking stalls, filling water buckets, sweeping, assisting with our therapeutic program as side walkers. Help at horse shows or with pony rides and parties and caring for the animals. Other equine and non-equine tasks may be required.

Training is provided but some experience with horses and/or working with people with cognitive or physical disabilities is helpful.

Time Commitment: From 8 to 25 hours weekly.
