Bayscape gardens feature native plants that support wildlife

The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy, a Baltimore County-based land trust and watershed restoration non-profit, is looking for volunteers who like to garden! Don't have a green thumb? Come learn in an informal setting.

Join us for a FREE garden workshop to learn about Bay-Wise landscaping with native plants and then get hands-on experience planting an edible Bayscape Garden at a private residence in Kingsville. Our host will provide lunch to all participants after the event.

Workshop qualifies for community service learning hours.

Bayscapes replace lawn with native plants that support wildlife, reduce maintenance, and filter rain water from your yard, driveway, or other hard surfaces. Bayscapes are planted in areas that will intercept and filter rainwater before it runs off to the creek, the Bay or a storm drain. Edible Bayscapes provide the added bonus of growing your own seasonal produce! We will be planting a stream-side riparian buffer with Pawpaw, Persimmon, native shrubs and flowers.

What to expect: Dress for yard work (hat, long pants, sneakers/boots) and bring your own water bottle. Garden gloves and tools will be provided.
