CAPI is a nonprofit organization located in South Minneapolis that works with immigrants and refugees. Formerly known as the Center for Asians and Pacific Islanders, we changed our name to CAPI USA, as we now serve individuals of all backgrounds. CAPI’s services include workforce development, civic and community engagement, health and human services, and food and nutrition. CAPI has staff that helps with applying for SNAP that assist in applying for health insurance through the marketplace.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a government program that help families across Minnesota access more nutritious and healthy meals. It helps stretch a household’s budget and is not intended to meet all the food needs of a household. SNAP can be used at many grocery stores, farmers markets, and senior dining sites.
As a SNAP Outreach intern, you will be involved in many aspects regarding outreaching for SNAP, educating others on SNAP benefits and eligibility to primarily refugee and immigrant population, and other tasks as assigned. This is your step towards equity by working with families and providing them with access to food support.
- Take 2.5 hours training for SNAP
- Coordinate presentations
- Present on SNAP eligibility and information
- Distribute outreach materials (flyers, brochures, etc.)
- Report outcomes to SNAP Outreach Coordinator
- Other tasks as needed
Flexible hours between 9am - 3pm, Mondays through Fridays, and some weeknights. It may vary.
Desirable (but not required):
- Ability to speak a Southeast Asian language (e.g. Hmong or Vietnamese)
- Ability to speak an East African language (e.g. Somali, Oromo, Amharic)
