Executive Director - Position Description

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Board of Trustees(BoT), the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Rochester Association for Film Arts & Sciences, Inc. (RAFAS) Executive Committee (EC) and all staff, programs, expansions, and execution of its mission. The position implies autonomy of management related to the day to day operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Management:

ED reports directly to the BoT and is expected to present to it all Significant Decisions as deemed by the Bylaws. Also ensures the quality and excellence of all programming and public facing endeavors as deemed by the RAFAS Bylaws and/or BoT directives.

Oversees all EC operations including accountability for and leadership of all Director Level positions, both active and unfilled. ED is the active Chair of the EC overseeing all formal and informal EC meetings as required to conduct day to day business. ED shall lead, coach and develop EC Directors and any appointed senior management to retain RAFAS effectiveness, efficiency and community relevance.

Strategy & Awareness:

ED is ultimately responsible for creating, maintaining, monitoring, and enforcing all active strategic goals of RAFAS BoT or EC, as well as tracking and reporting of all metrics, progression, and operational components of budgetary and community perceived goals. This includes final accountability for business planning, fundraising, and annual reporting.

Fiscal Responsibilities:

ED is fiscally accountable for current and future status off RAFAS financial positions, and oversight of all budgetary propositions to and from the BoT. ED is ultimately responsible for overall financial strategy and reporting, including signoff of any public financial reporting and for all fiscal requirements of RAFAS regarding federal, state and local regulation.

Community Perception:

ED is ultimately responsible for metering and maintaining excellence in the perception of the local community it serves. This includes accountability for all official public representation, relations and transparency reporting.

Business Development:

ED is responsible for advancing RAFAS financial and community perceived position through relationships with any production industry representatives and practicing professionals it serves. ED is accountable for expansion and retention of all active members and memberships.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ED candidate must be committed to the RAFAS vision, mission and established goals and initiatives. All candidates must demonstrate a passion for film and production as well as effective leadership skills, thorough knowledge of the production industry and proven business experience, including operations of a Not-For-Profit 501(c)3 Organization within New York State. Must be a self-motivated and goal driven individual with a passion for leadership and appreciation for media production as artistic expression.

Specific requirements:

Bachelors or higher degree from a 4 year institution in a production or communications related program with demonstrated relevance to media production, specifically film or television. Advanced degree preferred in a professional field related to Business or the Production Industry (MBA/MS/MA)

Minimum 5 years, preferred 10 years of experience in a senior leadership role(s) demonstrating oversight, strategic planning and accountability for adherence to a mission or professional goals.

Demonstration of ability to measure, track and report on budgeted projects and professional goals, and evidence of previous successful completion of said projects. (Ie. Major film or business endeavor).

Updated portfolio of projects demonstrating knowledge in multiple areas of production and related skill sets. Demonstration of excellence in at least one area of production or business.

Demonstration of a basic understanding of modern web, social-media, and/or IT platforms for marketing, operations and revenue generation.

Demonstration of strong interpersonal skills required for professional networking, public speaking and general leadership effectiveness - including exceptional written and verbal skills

RAFAS is a growing educational collective that provides educational content, organizes and hosts educational workshops, organizes and promotes scholarships to the community, maintains relationships with industry professionals thereby providing access to knowledge in the form of networking and mentor-ship, and organizes events related to promoting local production in the Upstate Area, including a forum for social networking and sharing related ideas about film/media.
