Overview:
The AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW) is one of the nation’s largest providers of HIV prevention, care and treatment services with a budget approaching $100 million and more than 225 employees. The unique, nationally recognized ARCW HIV Medical Home model of care assures that everyone with HIV has access to medical, dental, mental health and social services and provides the best opportunity for patients to achieve high quality health outcomes. ARCW also provides aggressive HIV preventions services to gay men, injection drug users and others at the highest risk for HIV infection. ARCW operates in the states of Wisconsin and Colorado, embraces a Market Culture to increase access to care, enhance quality outcomes and achieve and surpass financial performance expectations and has an aggressive plan to expand into additional states.
Philanthropic support is core to ARCW’s ability to fund aggressive prevention efforts and high-quality HIV specialty care. Fund raised from corporations, foundations, individuals and special events, including the AIDS Walk Wisconsin and 5K Run, help fund the cost of delivering care to people living with HIV, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.
Position Description: Interns assist the special events team in achieving fundraising goals through special events planning and production. Further, interns provide fundraising support for recruiting participants, generating donations, and securing third party events.
Interns will gain professional experience as part of a dynamic and growing fundraising team. Working directly with ARCW Development Directors and Managers, interns will contribute directly to a variety of aspects of fundraising and special events, including:
- Assisting with events production for AIDS Walk Wisconsin & 5K Run, Make A Promise Gala and Auction, Wisconsin AIDS Ride, Jolly Holly Folly, CAMP Bingo, and other events around the state
- Helping identify and secure commitments of participation or donation from individuals or corporate donors
- Coordinating event participant and donor recruitment through initial contact and follow up communications
- Assisting with managing event day logistics to coordinate and facilitate event setup and production
- Performing office duties including answering telephone, checking voicemail, e-mailing, copying, filing, etc.
Qualifications: * Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in event planning, communication, marketing, or related field; experience in event planning is highly preferred; * Ability to type with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows operating system, and databases; * Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with reliable, insured vehicle; * Strong organizational skills; * Effective oral and written communication skills; * Self-motivated within team environment; * Knowledgeable and sensitive to HIV/AIDS and related issues
