Volunteer position title: Laundry
Estimated hours: 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. more or less
Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
- Bend down on one knee
- Reach things above your head
- Shorts must be at least knee length
- Closed toed shoes only
Description:
- Throw away any unusable laundry
- Place laundry into washing machine
- All beds and blankets go into the large washing machines
- Wash towels in the regular washing machines
- Fill the detergent cup to the top and add it to the laundry in the washing machines
- Add one cup of bleach
- When the laundry washing cycle is finished, put wet laundry into the dryer.
- Towels go into the bottom dryer
- Large, bulky items go into the top dryer
- Clean the dryer filters after each load
- Make sure laundry is completely dry before folding
- If the laundry is still damp when the dryer stops, turn the dryer on again.
- Neatly fold laundry and store in designated shelf/area
When laundry is finished:
- Clean behind and beside all machines
- Wipe down machines with disinfectant
- Keep floor clean and obstacle free
- Restock detergent and bleach as needed
- Leave washing machine doors open to it can dry inside
- Do not leave dryers running

Founded in 1963, AWL is a non-profit organization that provides temporary home, medical services, and caring attention for countless dogs, cats, and other animals. The shelter exists solely due to the generous contributions of citizens, businesses, and the community.
We are a non-profit corporation [Sec. 501 (c) (3)] dedicated to the alleviation of pain and suffering of animals.
Our animal shelter provides safe refuge, nourishment, and love to hundreds of homeless animals each month.
The shelter accepts all animals brought in by Charlotte County residents and Animal Control. Approximately 5,000 animals are received each year
