ORGANIZATION: ECOWORKS INC

EcoWorks is a 501c3 non-profit organization in New Haven working to creatively engage the community in materials reuse to help protect the environment and build local collaboration and resilience. As a 99% volunteer-run organization, EcoWorks appreciates and relies on the involvement of community members with a diverse set of skills to assist in all aspects of the non-profit. We are currently seeking an Education, Outreach & Engagement (EOE) Coordinator to assist with:

  • Leading and organizing efforts between the EOE team members who are authoring for EcoWorks on the following platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, the EcoWorks website, Press Releases, and Email Contact List Messages
  • Help ensure a consistent message that represents EcoWorks' brand and image
  • Attend monthly Outreach and Engagement Committee meetings (usually the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8pm)
  • Coordinate efforts between outreach and engagement team members, EcoWorks Board leadership, and store staff
  • Expanding educational opportunities offered by EcoWorks by marketing and promoting workshops and special events and engaging with volunteers

Workshops are an important part of EcoWorks' mission to have fun creating things from scrap as well as for providing revenue for the organization. Educational activities will include arts and crafts classes and workshops using scrap materials, as well as exploring birthday parties and coordinating do-it-yourself hours in our reCraft space. Members of the Board will work closely with the EOE Coordinator to identify quality instructors and design engaging experiences for participants. The position will also work with volunteers and community partners. This position requires a basic understanding of arts/crafts, collaboration with adults and youth, planning, coordination, marketing, and evaluation.


Specific Task Details

Workshops

  • Work with the Board Chair and other Board members to identify topics and instructors for workshops
  • Organize 2+ workshops per month to generate workshop revenue
  • Coordinate workshop logistics with instructors including compiling workshop descriptions and biographical information
  • Outreach activities, online and offline which recruit event participants; market events through online and print media. Use on-line tools (facebook, mailchimp and eventbrite) to promote activities and set up online event registration
  • Administrative duties such as: Manage participant registration, respond to participant questions, communicate with instructor, communicate needed supplies to Board Chair, record and evaluate workshop
  • Greet presenters and ensure room is appropriately configured
  • Oversee collection of feedback for evaluation of workshop and event success

Special Events

  • Assist Eco Works Board and other volunteers to coordinate and organize On9/First Friday, community events, fundraising activities and other public scheduled events as needed

General

  • Develop and strengthen community relationships, including potential volunteers
  • Market events through online and print media
  • Document events and coordinate promotion of Eco Works with the media
  • Other duties as assigned


Preferred Skills

Self-starter with ability to establish priorities and work independently. Will have strong organizational skills; ability to resolve problems and seek feedback as necessary; friendly and helpful disposition, very good written/oral communication skills and agility with online tools and social media; interest or skills in the arts and/or crafting a plus. The ideal candidate will be energetic, optimistic, creative/artistic and demonstrate a passionate commitment to the mission and goals of EcoWorks. Must be computer savvy and capable of using social media tools effectively.

Description

Creative Reuse Center; we sell low-cost art supplies to support teachers, artists and other creative people. Materials are industrial scrap and business surplus in addition to donations from individuals. 2. reBoutique gift shop; consign with Connecticut based artists who use reclaimed materials in their work. 3. reCraft; we provide workshops and classes as well as a DIY maker-space Crafteria). We also offer workshops on how to use the scrap and environmental classes. We also house a reBoutique gift shop that showcases upcycled and repurposed goods made by CT artisans.

News Flash: We have moved to 89 State Street, North Haven. Just want to let you know that there are no buses that run to out new store. We''ve packed everything up at the store and most of our materials are now in the new store. Our challenge is going to be unpacking and setting up our new store. We're not quite ready for new volunteers at this time. However, by mid August we will be thrilled to have lots more hands! If you're interested you can still send us an email.
