Hi. My name is Darren Van Soye and I am the chairman of Run-Walk Events (RWE). RWE non-profit corporation for the public benefit, headquartered in Southern California. Our mission is to create world-class events that raise money in support of childhood fitness.

Our board is looking for a Chief Technology Officer. This person will be responsible for leading the effort to further automate our processes. We see automation as a key stepping stone to reaching our goal of 12 new race series over the next 3-5 years.

What is the time commitment? At a minimum, you should expect 2-4 hours per week. This first stage will involve defining the blueprint for the changes. Next, we would select those changes with the highest payoff in the near-term - the low-hanging fruit. I have intimate knowledge of our infrastructure and thus, we would be working together on this task. I also have spent the last 6 months documenting this infrastructure.

While we hope that you would stay on for a long period of time, we know that this is not realistic. Thus, we are expecting that you will sign up for at least 6 months. During this period, we will be defining the work and implementing the first phase of changes.

You will be working directly with me during your time. I am a 25-year veteran of the IT Industry. I have deep experience with project management (both waterfall and scrum), all aspects of software development and testing, quality and enterprise infrastructure.

After one year, I can commit to writing a solid LinkedIn review that covers our time together. I have done this many times before and everyone has been very pleased with my recommendation. If you are interesting in eventually moving into a CTO role, I believe this short-term, volunteer position will be worth your time and effort. And you will be improving the lives of adults and children in the process.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to spark a physical activity revolution across the United States by creating low-cost, family-friendly running and walking events that appeal to all ages, especially today's youth.

Description

We are a mission-driven organization who aims to have large-scale, positive health outcomes in the communities in which we operate. If some path will result in a greater impact in terms of the number of participants and/or the amount of good we do, we will favor this course of action. This includes our events or the amount of money we raise for our charity partner. If forced to choose, we weigh the impact of children higher than adults.

Our organization is volunteer run. While we do pay the Race Director a small stipend to maintain continuity, nearly everyone else is an unpaid volunteer. We seek to create a win-win environment where staff volunteers and interns can learn and grow in skills and experience with a time commitment as little as 2-4 hours/week. We specifically look for folks who want to give back, those who believe in our cause and those that with benefit in other ways outside of monetary compensation. We will write a recommendation letter after 90 days of satisfactory work.

Our events are built around the local community. The name of the event includes the name of the city where it is held, and we hire a local and race director. We partner with local businesses to finance our event. We also partner with a local charity for race-day volunteers and to receive funds raised.
