ORGANIZATION: Create Now

  • 3 people are interested

Create Now is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1996. We serve vulnerable children from birth to age 24 with our healing programs in writing, visual arts, music, performing arts, fashion, culinary arts and digital media. Kids who have been abused, neglected, homeless, on probation, incarcerated and dealing with other major challenges learn to communicate in a positive manner as they bond with role models who serve as mentors. Our workshops help them to find jobs and careers.

We also prevent abuse, violence and homelessness by providing comprehensive programs in Title 1, continuation and charter schools to low-income students who receive no arts education.

Each year, Create Now brings thousands of these "forgotten children," those who have fallen through the cracks, to concerts, plays and other cultural events at premiere venues in the region. In addition, we produce community projects in poverty-stricken neighborhoods, like arts festivals and mural programs. Our organization has directly reached more than 42,000 of the most troubled youth in Southern California during the last 21 years.

Our Program Committee consists of volunteers, board members and staff. We will be having our first meeting on Saturday, April 21st from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Create Now's office (located in DTLA near STAPLES). We need professional educators to help us develop and improve our arts education curricula, and to improve our evaluation system. Our goal is to build high-quality assessment tools that can be adapted for our diverse arts programs.

The Program Committee will be meeting on a monthly basis. Much of the volunteering requests can be done remotely on your own schedule. Please send resume/bio to info@createnow.org.
