Some of our rescue dogs come from backgrounds where they haven't been given the opportunity to learn good manners or tricks. Lots of our rescue dogs need to learn how to sit, lie down, and walk nicely on a leash which will help make them more adoptable. Our shelter always has at least 30 dogs who would love to learn and spend more time with people.
We do not require any prior experience for this job. For people who have little experience with training dogs, we can teach you how to leash train dogs and go from there. It's quite easy and we will provide all of the necessary supplies. Experience in training dogs (perhaps at home, a neighbor's dog, or even professionally) is a big plus! We always strive to train by positive reinforcement with treats, lots of love, and playtime.
Please send us a message through VolunteerMatch if you're interested!

Mission Statement
Our mission is to protect and help dogs and cats from homelessness neglect, abuse, cruelty and abandonment. VIDA does not belong to any one person but instead to all of its volunteers. We adopt out about 50-60 cats and dogs per month - we rescue dogs from high-kill shelters, low income neighborhoods, and from the streets of Mexico. We also have spay and neuter operations and have saved thousands of animals already. www.vida4animals.org www.instagram.com/vidarescue www.facebook.com/vidarescue
Description
Volunteers in Defense of Animals is a non-profit organization working to end the suffering and mistreatment of dogs and cats in Southern California. We bring spay and neuter services to areas where families cannot afford them; we facilitate the rescue, foster care, and adoption of animals whenever possible, and we offer education and support to those involved in the care of animals.
We have found forever homes for hundreds of dogs and cats, with around 4-5 new adoptions taking place each week. Many of our dogs come from local high-kill shelters before they are euthanized and on the streets of both the US and Mexico. We also have spay/neuter operations in low-income neighborhoods in the US and in Mexico and have spayed/neutered thousands of pets.
