The Center for Youth Development through Law (CYDL) (www.youthlawworks.org) is a small, award-winning nonprofit organization providing transformative educational programs to youth from first-generation and marginalized backgrounds in Oakland, Berkeley and Richmond, in cooperation with the UC Berkeley School of Law. Through paid professional internships, law and social justice education, social and emotional development curriculum, college and career development activities, and ongoing mentoring, we inspire and prepare youth for higher education, fulfilling careers, community engagement and leadership.
CYDL is seeking new board members who are passionate about empowering youth and who will assist in the governance of the organization as well as play an active role in securing the necessary financial resources. Board members are expected to spread the word about CYDL’s mission, utilize personal relationships and contacts to help find new donors and volunteers, donate to the organization annually in an amount that is personally significant, join in efforts to develop new fundraising ideas and to appreciate supporters, help ensure the Board is fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities, attend board meetings which take place approximately six times per year (usually on zoom), and attend significant program events such as our annual summer program graduation ceremony.
We especially encourage individuals from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds to get involved. Legal background or prior experience on boards are not required.
To express interest in board membership, please email Nancy Schiff, Executive Director, at nschiff@youthlawworks.org.
