  • VISTA Member will develop recruitment strategies for the Volunteers and Community Outreach Department to engage new volunteers and retain previous volunteers with the assistance of varies technological outlets. The VISTA member will also design a process to increase volunteer relations between departments include restructure of the volunteer on-boarding processes and volunteer recognition program.

  • After becoming familiar with Focus: HOPE's grant writing and research procedures, the VISTA member will write grants, proposals, letters of inquiry per prospect strategy, assist with management of grants tracking spreadsheet, assist with grants boilerplate project that organizes frequently-used proposal component parts, and research grant prospects

  • The Youth Development Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative and program support to the Community Arts Department and HOPE Village Freedom Schools. In this position, the VISTA member will coordinate and implement diverse facets of annual youth programs and special events. Responsibilities include: communication and networking with schools, residents, and community organizations; equipment and supply inventory; tracking student attendance and outcomes; preparing classrooms for program use; assist with grant writing and editing; maintaining digital photography archives; creating documents using online word processing platforms; managing departments’ social media sites; documenting program activities via photography and video, preparing artwork for exhibitions and installation, and other duties as needed.

Overview of AmeriCorps VISTA expectations and benefits

VISTA members serve full-time for one year with a nonprofit organization, working to build capacity and reduce poverty. VISTA members are volunteers and are given a modest living allowance of $11,800 per year, dand an education award of $5,815 upon completion of their year of service (or they may choose a $1,500 cash stipend).

Focus: HOPE is a human service organization. Founded in 1968 in the wake of the 1967 Detroit riots by Father Willam T. Cunningham (1930-1997) and co-founder Eleanor M. Josaitis (1931-2011), Focus: HOPE unites a multicultural community in common efforts to overcome injustice and build racial harmony. Over the years, Focus: HOPE has initiated practical solutions to the problems of hunger, economic disparity, inadequate education, and racial divisiveness. Answers can be found in Focus: HOPE's technology training programs, educational and corporate partnerships, and food programs.
