ORGANIZATION: Ensuring Stability through Action in our Community (ESAC)

Since 1965, Ecumenical Social Action Committee, Inc. (ESAC) has been dedicated to the work of strengthening communities, particularly for the young and old through innovative programs is home-ownership, education, and community service. This year, ESAC was awarded a NCOA (National Council on Aging) grant to establish and administer a Benefits Enrollment Center (BEC) for seniors and those with disabilities in the Greater Boston area. ESAC is recruiting a part-time volunteer(s) to help develop and grow this new program.

The volunteer(s) will:

  • Make and receive phone calls to our potential senior clientele to complete a Benefits Checkup to determine eligibility.
  • Help seniors to complete applications for various benefits.
  • Assist senior in gathering documents and information to accompany their applications for benefit review.
  • Provide outreach support via posting flyers, developing partnerships with like-minded agencies, attending networking functions and participating in community program events.
  • Engaging in active listening with callers, confirming or clarifying information and diffusing angry clients, as needed.
  • Building lasting relationships with clients and other call center team members based on trust and reliability.
  • Other Benefits Enrollment support as needed

Founded in 1965, ESAC is a community-based, nonprofit, multi-service agency that strives to improve the quality of life for residents of Boston and eastern Massachusetts. Focusing on children and the elderly through innovative programs in home ownership, education, and community service, ESAC helps identify problems that threaten individuals and communities, and works in partnership with other agencies to find creative, long-lasting solutions. By sending forth ripples of hope, ESAC serves as a catalyst for strengthening neighborhoods and building communities.

ESAC is a longtime United Way agency and receives support from charitable foundations, corporations, contracts with various government agencies, and generous donations from individuals throughout the greater Boston area.
