We are seeking curious individuals to volunteer with Clio, a nonprofit website and mobile app that connects the public to historical and cultural sites. In Clio's collaborative digital platform, volunteers will research, write, and edit Clio entries on historic sites, museums, monuments, markers, and past events. Volunteers will use narrative text, as well as images, videos, primary and secondary sources, and links to related content to tell rich, compelling, and concise stories about the past. Volunteers can also create digital walking tours and heritage trails, which provide step-by-step directions and convey connections between historic sites. With our growing database of 30,000 entries and 250 tours from across the United States, volunteers will enhance our ability to connect the public with historical and cultural sites and provide them with well-written, thoroughly-researched content.
Volunteering opportunities can be tailored to individuals' schedules, interests, and skills. Volunteers should demonstrate an interest in history, an independent work ethic, the ability to research and write in a professional manner, and basic computer skills. Volunteers will work with Clio AmeriCorps members, who will help them determine the scope of their service and review their work before publication.
Please reach out to us with your availability and questions! We are looking forward to hearing from you and working together to share history with the public.

Mission Statement
The Clio Foundation seeks to connect curiosity with expertise. Our website and mobile application helps educators, local historians, libraries, and historical societies reach the public "where they stand." Clio picks up a user's location and connects them to information about nearby historical and cultural sites. By using this platform, community institutions and individuals can create individual entries and complete walking tours that make history come alive.
Description
Clio is an educational website and mobile application that guides the public to thousands of historical and cultural sites throughout the United States. Built by scholars for public benefit, each entry includes a concise summary and useful information about a historical site, museum, monument, landmark, or other site of cultural or historical significance. In addition, "time capsule" entries allow users to learn about historical events that occurred around them. Each entry offers turn-by-turn directions as well as links to relevant books, articles, videos, primary sources, and credible websites.
Clio offers a compelling intellectual challenge as professional historians work with local history experts to create and vet entries in an open digital environment. Ambitious in scope, Clio allows scholars and their students to publish humanities scholarship using an innovative digital format that will instantly reach a broad audience in ways that cannot be replicated by traditional forms of publishing. We believe that there is something powerful that occurs when our sense of the past connects with our sense of place.
