Pierce College is taking a making-centered approach to STEM education in our Pierce County community with an outreach program in need of a coordinator for 2018-2019!

The Mobile Makerspace Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for developing STEM curriculum for mobile activity kits, to encourage hands-on learning and engage non-traditional thinkers in STEM concepts across Pierce County. We want to show our youth how they can be the thinkers and makers that can change the world, by making STEM accessible and fun! The most important assets for this job are a creative mind, a relationship-focused personality, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a love of learning. If you have a background in Makerspaces, technology, program coordination/management of any kind, or curriculum development, those are big pluses. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who sees a future for themselves in STEM education, in program coordination, in arts administration, or in youth development. This is an AmeriCorps VISTA service opportunity, which in addition to a monthly stipend awards end-of-service benefits after he completion of a service year and further employment opportunities.

Term of service: 365 days, averaging 40 hrs /week

Qualifications:

Associate or Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least 18 years of age, U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or person residing legally in Washington State
  • Ability to make a full-year commitment
  • Interest and/or experience in community service and/or community development
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with diverse populations, including multicultural experience and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Proficient in Google platform, MS Office, Adobe products, social media, and database management
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple work assignments
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Ability to pass criminal background check

AmeriCorps VISTA benefits:
