Volunteers provide transportation and assistance to clients who going to appointments in different locations, including picking up families at the airport. The community advocate will also provide some assistance to families unfamiliar with different social service agencies, Social Security Administration offices, etc. Volunteer will drive family members to appointments, help with paperwork and provide assistance in understanding bureaucratic processes, and possibly intervene in the event of misunderstandings. Volunteers must pass a background check, provide their own reliable vehicle, have a valid driver’s license, and be willing to report the number of hours worked to LSS/NCA.
(Time commitment: allow 4 hours per appointment, mostly 9 am - 5 pm. Airport arrivals tend to happen in the evenings.)
Background Checks Required: $20 fee (except for students)
