Changing a child's life one syllable at a time!
Becoming a certified Structured Language Practitioner takes approximately one year of working with two students at the Center, during which time practitioners are considered volunteers as they complete the required 90 hours of classroom training, 100 hours of practicum training, and 10 hours of observation. Tutoring lessons for the practicum are scheduled twice a week on either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday for 60 minutes each lesson with two students. All sessions are held after school between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.. The training cycle begins this Winter and then be distributed throughout the year.

Prerequisite Requirements:
Passion for helping children,
Bachelor’s Degree,
Completed application,
Love of reading

Completion of our International Multisensory Structural Language Education Council (IMSLEC) accredited training program
* 90 hours classroom training (lecture and other requirements) * 100 hours practicum w/students * 10 hours observation

Note: The (IMSLEC) accredited training program, which typically costs about $5,000, is Free to the trainees at our Center.

Course Instruction begins ASAP via Scheduled Zoom Meetings with a plan to transition to in person instruction as COVID restrictions allow.

The mission of the Children's Dyslexia Center of Upper Wisconsin is to provide high quality instruction to children who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling using a multisensory, structured literacy approach at no cost to the family. It is also our mission to provide the highest quality accredited training to those who provide student instruction.

Description

The Children's Dyslexia Center of Upper Wisconsin, an affiliate of the Scottish Rite Masonic Children's Dyslexia Centers, Inc that was founded in 1994, opened in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on January 11, 2011. This center serves families in the entire northwest part of Wisconsin, extending from LaCrosse to Superior and Hudson to Wausau. As a 100% locally funded nonprofit organization, charity events such as the Teddy Bear Classic Golf Event and Steppin' Up for Dyslexia Awareness Event along with generous donations and memorials, help to support the operation and expansion of the center. The time, talent, and treasures of those who support the work we do helps to change a child's future.
