ORGANIZATION: Colors of Connection

  • 4 people are interested

About the project: In August 2018 Colors of Connection is launching
the Tunaweza Portraits Project, which means "we are able" in Swahili, in Goma, Democratic
Republic of Congo (DRC). By giving adolescent girls a chance to represent themselves as the
powerful and capable individuals that they are through posters and collaborative murals, Colors
of Connection will help these girls become agents of change in their communities and most
importantly to be seen differently by their families, friends, and even the international public.

About the volunteer position: We are looking for a volunteer to help us to create content for our social media channels: FB, Twitter, and Instagram: which includes managing content and finding relevant news articles, videos, etc. to post and share. as we lead up to the launch off our crowdfunding campaign June 1, and to the launch of the project on in late August.

This is an opportunity to share a different story coming out of Eastern Congo.

If you are interested in joining us in a volunteer capacity and to learn more connect with me and I can send along our promo video for the project.

Thank you!

Christina

About Colors of Connection

Location:

Mission Statement

To engage youth from conflict-affected countries and their communities through collaborative art-making to promote hope, well-being, and self-determination in the pursuit of social justice.

Description

Colors of Connection (CC) is a US based 501(c)(3) non-profit focused on arts engagement, public mural making, and community building in conflict-affected and fragile contexts. We work with adolescent girls and young women with the goal of trauma healing and violence prevention focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa.

Through the medium of art, we invest in building knowledge, skill sets and resources that strengthen adolescent’s mental and emotional capacities, and allow them to move beyond the mindset of basic survival brought on by living through conflict. At the heart of our work is the belief that art is a powerful catalyst that can help people heal and rebuild their lives and communities.
