ORGANIZATION: AMERICAN FRIENDS OF ZANAAFRICA CORP

In honor of ZanaAfrica's 10-year anniversary, we are hosting a gathering in New York City the evening of Monday, May 14th, centered around a panel discussion for our supporters, stakeholders, and friends from the Menstrual Health Management community. This event will showcase ZanaAfrica's Founder along with other leading experts to discuss the future of the menstrual health movement in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals. From social entrepreneurship, to community lead development, to research and global policy change, this discussion will deepen our understanding of why menstruation matters now, more than ever before.

We are looking for a NYC-based videographer for this two-hour event to take a high video that we may then share among our networks.

Mission Statement

MISSION ZanaAfrica Foundation supports adolescent girls in Kenya to stay in school by delivering reproductive health education and sanitary pads. VISION We envision a world where girls in East Africa live healthy, safe, educated lives while defining their own purpose-a world in which menstrual health management is recognized as a human right, and the onset of puberty as the most effective time to engage girls in a range of personal health decisions.

Description

Supporting programs in Kenya for a decade, ZanaAfrica Foundation is a US-based 501c3 that supports over 10,000 girls each year with sanitary pads and reproductive health education, while leading advocacy efforts to de-stigmatize menstruation. We work arm-in-arm with our Kenya-based social business partner, ZanaAfrica Group, which manufactures and distributes high quality, low-cost feminine hygiene products through the marketplace using aspirational brands designed for women, and by women, creating safe spaces to learn about health and reclaim dignity.

Founded by Megan White Mukuria in 2007, ZanaAfrica is a leader in menstrual health management and sexual and reproductive health and rights education that leverages sanitary pads and health education as a combined intervention for women and girls’ development. We uniquely recognize that this powerful combination is one of the smallest hinges to unlock girls’ potential and break cycles of poverty.
