Community Health Ambassador

From breakthrough research, to free lodging near treatment, a 24/7/365 live helpline, free rides to treatment, and convening powerful activities to create awareness and impact. The Society is the only organization attacking cancer from every angle.

Volunteer Features:

  • Exposure to health disparities and cancer prevention/early detection measures.
  • Increase understanding of ACS programs and services.
  • Gain knowledge and skills around planning, community outreach and community mobilization.
  • Opportunity to interact with different ethnic/racial communities to raise awareness of cancer as a major health issue and provide education around cancer prevention and health &wellness
  • Increase the commitment of those you engage to take action
  • Opportunity to do side visits to culturally organizations that serve the Latino/Hispanic community
  • Opportunity to attend conference/workshops around health equity and community health
  • Enhance your communication and listening skills
  • Bilingual English/ Spanish/ language skills for Latino outreach, as well, as other languages for our Asian communities

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist with outreach activities at health fairs, Spanish churches, social services community-based, schools, etc...
  • Assist with Community Health Centers and Hospitals screening events to reach uninsured and under-insured minority population
  • Provide education/information sessions on the main cancer topics, healthy nutrition; being active, etc.
  • Give presentations about cancer prevention & early detection as well as ACS Cancer Resource programs/services as needed
  • Help prepare materials in health education for community events/screening days
  • Connect individuals and community to ACS 1-800 number, website, and other services.
  • Provide support to ACS Health Systems Department in office when needed (Once a month, as time allow)

Hours: Flexible: Most of the screening events occur during day time; however, we also have some in weekends and evenings.
