ORGANIZATION: Reentry Ready

This is a mentoring opportunity for men 21 years and older; not on probation or parole. You will be working with men that are currently incarcerated at Lansing Correctional Facility. We have one on one mentoring at least once a month for two hours. You can also participate in group mentoring. The program starts 6 month to a year prior to their release and will continue in the community settings for another six months.

The application requires a background check and is followed by a 6 hours training. Once matched with a mentee your role will be :

  • To be positive role model
  • Be a great listener
  • Provide emotional support
  • Be supportive and encouraging
  • Show respect and earn respect
  • Accept them as they are
  • Be patient
  • Assist released offenders in accessing community resources

Reentry Ready’s mission is to provide holistic support for individuals returning to society from incarceration.

Description

97 percent of men and women in prisons will eventually return to sosciety. Barriers to successful reentry include homelessness, lack of job skills and education, untreated substance addiction, lack of family and community support, and discrimination based on felony records. Reentry Ready will provide stability and support self-sufficiency through community living and supportive services. Reentry Ready is currently providing one on one and group mentoring to prepare inmates for their release from incarceration. You can support Reentry Ready by volunteering and becoming a mentor. Our current programs are in Kansas Lansing Correctional Facility for men and plan to start a new program In Missouri at KCRC. We are also looking for AA members that can lead meetings and sponsor men in prison.
