Mission Statement

The mission of Naperville Seniors in Action d/b/a Ride Assist Naperville (RAN) is to improve the quality of life for Naperville seniors and their caregivers by providing safe, affordable and dependable transportation to medical appointments. We will: • Respect the dignity of our senior passengers; • Provide a means for the employed family member to remain at work; • Strengthen the peace of mind of the senior passenger and their family and friends; • Encourage community response to help meet these needs.

Description

Ride Assist Naperville (RAN) was founded in April 2016 to provide affordable and dependable transportation for seniors to their medical appointments. RAN is a program under Naperville Seniors in Action (NSIA), a 501(c)(3) organization. Lack of transportation is one of the main issues facing our senior citizens today. RAN is here to help fill the gap and ensure seniors can live independently, enjoy their connection with our volunteer drivers, and continue to make it to their medical appointments.

How does the service work? This exciting initiative pairs seniors who need rides to and from their medical appointments with a volunteer driver to take them to the appointments, wait with them, and then drive them back home. Seniors (minimum age 60) must complete an application prior to requesting their first ride. Rides are by appointment only; a minimum of 7 business days advance notice is required. We ask for a $15 donation for each round-trip ride. A one-way ride is a suggestion of $7.50. As always, this is just a suggested donation amount. No rider is required to pay. No money is given to the driver and no tipping is allowed; a pledge is sent the following month. All of our insured drivers are volunteers who use their own vehicles to provide transportation.
