Are you an avid photographer with a love of documenting the built environment?

Are you looking for a way to exercise these interests, while helping in the fight to protect the physical history and human scale which give New York its unique and beloved character?

If so, we're looking for your help. LANDMARK WEST! is a preservation watchdog and advocacy group that has been fighting for the protection of architecture on Manhattan's Upper West Side for over 30 years. We are currently working to catalog all the landmarks in our historic districts, and we are looking for some dedicated volunteers to photograph buildings in these districts

The job entails walking throughout the Upper West Side, photographing the facades, stoops, and windows of buildings. We have lists of the gaps in our photos, and you can simply take one of these lists and make your way down a street, photographing as you go. Then when you return to our office or your computer, you will label each shot with the appropriate address, so we can match them to our entries.

Requisites: Must have a steady hand and a good eye. If you have your own DSLR that would of course be a plus, but we have been shooting on our phones so far, so a DSLR is not necessary. Photoshop experience very much appreciated, as photos will have to be resized for the web.

Hours: Flexible, an afternoon a week, perhaps, at a time that works with your schedule. Our office hours are 9 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday. You can also take the pictures when it is convenient for you and send them along to us as you take them.
