The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
In the state of Missouri, 12% of children have experienced at least three traumas in their young lives. At The Children's Place, we serve children from the Kansas City community who have experienced 5-7 traumas--these kids needs special attention and you can help to make a difference in their lives--TODAY!
Afternoon Classroom Classroom volunteers are vital to the work being accomplished at The Children's Place. That is why some of our volunteers have been on staff for 40 years! Our volunteers work directly with the children in our care to overcome challenges, grown, and flourish.
Classroom Assistant volunteers provide essential support to the Day Treatment Services program. Volunteers should be willing to commit to one morning per week from 8:45 a.m. to noon. Though each classroom is different--depending on the age of the children in the room, general duties of the Classroom Volunteer include: prepping and sitting down to family style meals, facilitating basic skills (e.g. zipping a coat, brushing teeth, washing hands), playing, story reading, playground time, and other tasks.
Volunteers are critical to establishing a consistent, warm atmosphere--as well as helping to provide one-on-one attention to the children who need stimulation, guidance, and nurturing.
