ORGANIZATION: The Arc Minnesota & Arc's Value Village

The Arc HR Intern, VV Volunteers is a stipend eligible position for this 2018-2019 school year. This position performs recruitment, placement, training, evaluation, recognition and administrative duties supporting organizational outcomes. Reporting to the Volunteer Development Manager, Thrift Business, and working closely with others in the organization, this position supports a broad range of volunteer activities with The Arc Minnesota. Duties include:

Working with Volunteers

  • Greet & orient individual volunteers - Assist kiosk clocking in/out, provide orientation to The Arc/Arc’s Value Village, provide task and training or direct to appropriate staff for training
  • Greet & orient group volunteers - Gather & direct members where to sign-in, provide orientation to group-use "Sort-a-thon Orientation Outline," provide volunteers with task and training or direct to appropriate staff for training
  • Provide support and encouragement to Regular/On-going volunteers
  • Process applications, screen applicants to ensure appropriate & increase in-store volunteer recognition

Working with Staff

  • Train staff on working effectively with volunteers
  • Assist store managers/supervisors with navigating CiviCore; includes pulling reports/information from system

Volunteer Recruitment and Community Outreach

  • Learn CiviCore, The Arc’s Online Volunteer Calendar from both public and administrative perspectives
    • Test registration process for community volunteers-schedule individual & group volunteer opportunities (be sure to keep track of test registrations so we can then cancel them)
    • Learn administrative side of the program - add volunteers, groups, adjust volunteer hours, etc.
  • Learn and utilize online volunteer recruitment tools
    • WEEKLY - VolunteerMatch - Find Arc’s Value Village volunteer postings, update & add new postings
    • HandsOn Twin Cities - Find Arc’s Value Village volunteer posting, update & add new postings
    • Research and find out costs, how to post, etc. on new online platforms such as Your Cause and Benevity
  • Community outreach to churches, high schools, senior centers, boy and girl scouts, etc. in the Twin Cities
    • Share individual and/or small/youth group volunteer opportunities; document on spreadsheet

Administrative

  • Evaluate volunteer program & make recommendations for improvement; includes for Vocational Volunteer Groups
  • Database support and assistance in CiviCore internally and with customers
  • Other duties as necessary

Position is 10-12 hours a week for the 2018-2019 school year. An exit interview will also be conducted to gauge intern experience and to make recommendations for improvement.

The Arc Minnesota is a non-profit, grassroots advocacy organization serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Intellectual and developmental disabilities include Down syndrome, autism, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy and related conditions. The Arc helps people address issues such as early intervention, education, transition to adulthood, employment, housing, health care, guardianship, transportation, supports available to families/caregivers and on policy issues at local, state and national levels.
