The walk will take place on Sunday, May 6, at Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon. This fun, festive family event will host approximately 2,000 participants.
Volunteers play an important role in helping us ensure a successful event where we celebrate patients, many of whom are children and their families, and raise funds critical to our mission: To cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improve the quality of life of those affected by these diseases.
For more than 20 years, the Long Island Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation has been helping Long Islanders cope with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, two chronic illnesses that affect an estimated 1.6 million Americans, with an estimated 40,000 patients in Nassau and Suffolk Counties alone. Of that number, 10% are children. IBD affects people from every community and every walk of life. It is especially cruel to children, causing unrelenting pain, impeding their growth and development and affecting them for their entire lives, unless we find a cure.
The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is the only national organization committed to finding the cause and cure for IBD. In addition to volunteering, we would welcome a team of walkers. I have attached a volunteer recruitment flyer and volunteer interest form. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. I can be reached at 516-222-5530 or akrauss@crohnscolitisfoundation.org.
