Girls on the Run - DC offers a life-changing, positive youth empowerment program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Volunteers are at the heart of our organization and are who allow us to serve approximately 2,200 girls a year at roughly a 70% scholarship rate. We believe all girls should have access to our transformative and empowering program regardless of their financial situation.

Help us serve more girls by volunteering at the GW Parkway Classic 10-Miler on Sunday, April 22nd, as part of the Bag Drop Station! The Girls on the Run-DC SoleMate adult charity athletes are running this race to help more girls participate in our program. Your support helps the runners and positively impacts how our SoleMates fundraise on behalf of our girls.

GW Parkway Classic Bag Drop Volunteers for Girls on the Run-DC will meet at Oronoco Bay Park, in Alexandria, VA, at 7:30AM to help store runners' belongings while they gear up to run! The volunteer opportunity will finish at Oronoco Bay Park at 11:00am.

Mission Statement

Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

Description

Girls on the Run-DC is an independent council of Girls on the Run International, founded in 1996, by Molly Barker, a visionary, Ironman triathlete. Today, there are nearly 170 locations across the U.S. & Canada, with new locations added each year. Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) event with healthy living education. We use exercise, positive reinforcement, and encouraging role models to help girls discover the confidence they need in the critical pre-teen years and beyond.
