Roles and Responsibilities of Volunteer Medical Staff

  • Maintain the Camp Health Center/Infirmary
  • Complete a medical review of camper and volunteer applications 4-8 weeks prior to the start of the MDA camp program
  • Maintain medical equipment and supplies
  • Dispense medications (licensed physicians and nurses only)
  • Perform first aid
  • Maintain records and documents of care, including the MDA Medical Log
  • Being part of the Emergency Decision Team
  • Have fun with the campers!
  • In order to be eligible, a volunteer medical staff must:
  • Have a valid medical license for the state in which they are attending camp;
  • Be able to care for campers and assist with their needs;
  • Complete an application and submit two references (volunteers who volunteered at a camp session in the previous year will not need to provide references);
  • Have a pre-camp physical completed within the past year
  • Present up-to-date immunization records;
  • Receive a favorable criminal background check;
  • Complete an interview with MDA staff
Before camp:
  • Camp Week Schedule of Tasks for Volunteer Medical Staff
  • Complete a medical review of camper and volunteer applications 4-8 weeks prior to the start of the MDA camp program
  • Make phone calls to camper families/physicians if additional clarification is required
  • Prepare pages in MDA Medical Log
  • Set-up system for controlled medications
  • Confirm that emergency medical assistance is in place (paramedic, ambulance service, hospital arrangements, etc.)
