Jovenes (which means youth in Spanish) helps young men and women, ages 18-25, end their cycle of homelessness. Located in Boyle Heights and serving the Southeaster part of LA County, we provide everything our youth need to get off the streets and into housing. We go deep with our youth implementing a plan that addresses their needs for housing, healthcare, education, employment and trauma recovery. We are a home and family for those without, providing an innovative program of stable housing options, compassionate care, life skills training, and employment & education support for young adults seeking a path to life change. Our mission is to help homeless youth become productive and integrated members of society. We believe our young people are not defined by their homelessness and deserve the chance to achieve their dreams. This is why we continue to develop new pathways and opportunities for our young people. Recently, Jovenes launched the College Success Initiative to combat student homelessness on community college campuses. 1 in 5 community college students in LA County is experiencing homelessness. Picture them: students sleeping in cars or couch surfing, stressed out and studying on an empty stomach, showering in the school gym, prioritizing education over their basic needs, all in the hope of a better future. Through our College Success Initiative, Jovenes is partnering with community colleges to bring our housing and supportive resources on-campus allowing these students to graduate and achieve their dreams. We are leaders in our community, and we are looking for leaders to join our team. Description
Jovenes, Inc. helps youth ages 18 - 25. We provide an innovative program of
stable housing options, compassionate care, life skills training, and employment support to young
adults seeking a path to life change. As a hands-on leader and innovator focused on permanent
solutions to end the cycle of homelessness, Jovenes continues to grow through construction and
renovation of existing homes in the neighborhoods we serve. Our housing model includes
supportive short term and permanent housing designed to create a home-like atmosphere for those
we serve. Our programs are designed to take youth off the streets and move them into their own
apartments as they develop healthy living skills, increase their income, go back to school, and
identify career pathways. We have found that once youth have a steady roof over their head and a
connection to a support structure of caring individuals, they are able to continue their development
into self-sufficient adults. Our campus is located in Boyle Heights, a low-income neighborhood in
Los Angeles. We are the only organization in our community that provides this level of services
and programs for homeless youth.
