Our native habitats are under attack! Our mission is to repel these forces, slowing and reversing their infiltration into Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. Pulling, digging, clipping and otherwise removing invasive, nonnative species is vital to the health of our ecological communities and the preservation of our rich regional biodiversity.

Help restore the native habitat of Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. This volunteer position will assist in the removal of non-native plant species using a variety of manual methods depending on habitat needs, species attributes and volunteer ability. Work on these projects will enhance: native plant species recruitment, erosion control and moisture retention within the biotic communities.

Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve, its finger canyon, Lopez, and the adjacent mesa top spaces, Carmel Mountain Preserve and Del Mar Mesa Preserve, are exquisite examples of diverse beauty of our natural inheritance here in San Diego. In our semi-arid climate, these preserves offer a multifaceted view at the many habitat types and plant communities our region boasts, from shady riparian to breezy grasslands, fragrant sagescrub.

Join us every third Saturday of the month to help sustain the native biodiversity.
