Schedule a date to volunteer to help pack food for hungry Mainers!

We would love to encourage you to schedule some time for your staff to tour our facility and volunteer some time with us at our facility here in Auburn. We schedule groups of volunteers for three hours or more Monday-Thursday between 8:30am-3pm and Fridays between 8:30am-1pm. I’d love to discuss scheduling a date or dates for your staff to volunteer with us. I have groups that volunteer once a year and many that set up monthly or bi-monthly dates for their staff. We take individuals and groups of 2-20 volunteers!

Our volunteers’ generous donation of time and talent allows us to fulfill our mission of working to end hunger in Maine from Kittery to Fort Kent! Our volunteers are crucial to the work that we do here at the Food Bank. Through the help of individuals like you, we are able to distribute over 35,000 meals to our most vulnerable neighbors every single day.

Volunteers may be doing a variety of different projects based on the present need in the Auburn warehouse on the day of service. Examples of what volunteers may be doing include: helping to pack for our supplemental nutrition program ( CSFP - Senior Brown Bag) or our BackPack Program and assisting the inspection team to pre-inspect donated, salvaged food and sorting it for storage.

About Good Shepherd Food Bank

Location:

3121 Hotel Road, P.O.Box 1807, Auburn, ME 04211, US

Mission Statement

The mission of the Good-Shepherd Food-Bank is to provide food for those at risk of hunger by soliciting surplus food and distributing it to nonprofit programs throughout Maine, and in doing so to do the work of Jesus, who is The Good Shepherd.

Description

Good Shepherd Food Bank is the central hub of Maine's largest hunger relief network. We provide for those at risk of hunger by soliciting food donations and purchasing food at wholesale prices, then distributing this food to over 600 partner agencies in every county in Maine. Our partner agencies include nonprofit organizations that fight hunger on the front lines in their communities, such as soup kitchens, homeless shelters, food pantries, and after school programs for underprivileged kids.

By working together as a network, Good Shepherd Food Bank and our partners are able to provide enough food for nearly 30,000 meals every day of the year.

By volunteering at the Food Bank, you are able to make a direct impact in providing both food and hope for Maine families from Kittery to Fort Kent.
