Aramburu Island is our Pot of Gold
We are thrilled to take volunteers of all ages and abilities to Aramburu Island. We only ask that volunteers are 12+ years and provide their own food, water, work clothes and appropriate weather gear. Island restoration days can accommodate up to 14 people, larger groups can join us onsite in our Native Plant Nursery.

About

The project site is located in Richardson Bay, a short boat ride or kayak paddle from our center in Tiburon. The 17-acre island, Aramburu, was created in the early 1960s by dredge spoils and fill from nearby development. Visiting Aramburu Island Sanctuary offers volunteers a great opportunity to view resting and foraging waterbirds. The main task of each volunteer event is to restore the island due to wintering waterbirds using it as a resting spot. We will be planting native species and pulling invasive ones, and requires some bending over. The work is moderately strenuous. We encourage our volunteers to bring good shoes, clothes they don’t mind getting dirty in and a water bottle. We hope to see you at one of our events. Those under 16 are REQUIRED to bring an adult volunteer with them. When you RSVP make sure to register both individuals. For quickest response email carndt@audubon.org to RSVP.
