Volunteer with the Volunteers at HCMC Food Shelf!

Community Involvement Programs (CIP) supports people who have mental health diagnoses, intellectual disabilities and or developmental disabilities through services that promote wellness, safety and recovery. One of the programs is our Community Engagement Services, which connects people we support to opportunities to be involved and be of service in the community.

Description: Community Engagement Services provides all of their activities in the community, either volunteering or learning new skills. In order to better serve our community and the people we support, we are seeking volunteers to assist people we support in their volunteer work. This particular need for a volunteer is at HCMC Food Shelf. The people CIP supports will do a variety of tasks depending on the day and what is needed, which means the volunteer supporting them will also have different activities. Activities will always include:

  • Support people while they make a positive impact in the community
  • Creating a positive, uplifting atmosphere
  • Engage in fun and light conversation

Qualifications:

  • Outgoing, positive and patient attitude
  • Be adaptable in a flexible working environment
  • Must undergo criminal history background check

Training: Related to their specific assignments, volunteers will participate in ongoing training following their orientation with CIP. The Volunteer Coordinator will manage the onboarding process, including a background check and policy overview, whereas a designated staff point of contact will facilitate task specific training.

Benefits to Volunteer:

  • Observe successful outcomes for persons supported through CIP services
  • Lead community efforts to promote people living their greatest lives
  • Learn person centered requirements to improve the lives of those we serve

Commitment and Location: HCMC Food Shelf is located at 701 Park Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55415. We volunteer there every Thursday and Friday from 10:00 am - 11:30 am. However do to limited capacity we are looking for a volunteer to participate on only one of these days. It is asked that the volunteer participate for at least three months on a regular basis for this opportunity.

Mission Statement

As listeners, learners and leaders, we will stand with and support people with disabilities in their communities as they pursue their personal dreams and goals.

Description

We're here to help people cope with the issues surrounding social injustice, low income, aging, and homelessness -- and, in doing so, to help them live their greatest lives.

Since 1971, we've been meeting people where they are and bringing them what they need to live as independently, creatively, and fully as possible. We offer a variety of services and supports, which have all been developed as a result of listening to and understanding the needs of the people we serve, their loved ones and their communities.
