The Forest Resource Education Center (FREC) has 8 short loop trails of less than 1-mile. We also have an arboretum and pollinator garden all in year-round need of general maintenance. That is: pruning, raking, leaf blowing, sign cleaning, trash pickup and light carpentry. All tools are provided but it is best if you can bring your own gloves.

We have educational programs that require trails be periodically inspected and maintenance to keep them safe and navigable. Join our group and stay active outdoors while helping us to promote healthy forests!

Mission Statement

The Forest Resource Education Center (FREC) offers educational hikes and programs to community groups and schools to promote appreciation for New Jersey forests.

FREC is the public outreach division for the New Jersey Forest Service. Our facility includes an exhibition hall and classroom located within 865-forested acres located in central New Jersey.

Annually we host about 1500 students on 1.5-hour educational hikes along our variety of forested trails. Volunteers, with environmental backgrounds, are needed as Hike Leaders for student groups as well as adult community groups.
