We are seeking volunteers/mentors for FIRST student robotics teams of all levels (elementary - high school) in Boyle Heights and South Los Angeles.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit founded by Dean Kamen that creates robotics teams and competitions for K-12 students around the world. FIRST’s mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. Students on FIRST robotics teams design and build a robot that competes on an obstacle course.
Ideal volunteers have a STEM background, are enthusiastic about working with kids, or both! You would be providing critical support to underserved students who are passionate about STEM and robotics.
We will work with any interested volunteer to find a convenient time that you can assist one of our teams; we currently have 9 FIRST robotics teams in Boyle Heights, so there is high demand for any time you can volunteer!

Description
As part of his commitment to philanthropy, will.i.am launched the i.am.angel Foundation in 2009 to TRANS4M lives through education, inspiration and opportunity. The i.am.angel foundation administers charitable activities and programs targeted towards providing college scholarships (i.am scholarship), college preparation (i.am College Track), and opportunities in STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).
The i.am.angel Foundation is especially committed to transforming will.i.am’s hometown of Boyle Heights in east Los Angeles. Boyle Heights is a predominantly low-income, working class, immigrant community that is rich in culture and potential, but struggling with a lack of resources and opportunities. We strive to turn Boyle Heights into a model for other communities around the world.
