Supply Transport Volunteer for Healthcare for the Homeless Team

Purpose: This volunteer will be supporting the Hennepin County Healthcare for the Homeless (HCH) team by transporting medication, medical supplies, and paperwork to various clinics at homeless shelters near downtown Minneapolis. By doing this role, the volunteer is assisting the staff to be able to better aid individuals being served at the clinics.
Responsibilities: The volunteer uses his/her personal vehicle. The volunteer can be reimbursed for mileage and parking expenses incurred while performing volunteer assignments.
- Pick-up needed items from HCH clinics or Health Services Building and drop them off at other HCH clinics in downtown Minneapolis area
- Communicate directly with staff for instructions and coordination of transporting various needed supplies.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have regular access to a safe mechanically sound vehicle
- Have and maintain an active Minnesota drivers licenses and carry at least the minimum insurance coverage required by law
- Have excellent communication skills
- Be able to follow multistep instructions
- Notify volunteer coordinator of any change in insurance eligibility or driver privileges
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Have regular access to a working cellular telephone (with a GPS or navigation app)
- Volunteers must complete an application, interview and orientation process, provide 3 references, and pass a criminal background/driver’s license check
- 3 month time commitment.
- Volunteering one 2-4 hour shift per week on either Tuesdays or Thursdays between 9am-4pm. Location: There are 9 different HCH clinic locations in the downtown Minneapolis area

Description
The work of our Department tends to fall into three major areas:
- Increasing safety and stability of individuals and families through services such as child and adult protection, providing temporary emergency shelter, and more.
- Promoting self-reliance and a livable income through a mixture of federal and state programs, such as SNAP (food support), Child Support, Veterans' Service, cash assistance programs and more.
- Improving the health of the community through public health care programs, restaurant inspections, regulating emergency medical services, providing crisis response to behavioral health emergencies, immunization services, a public health clinic, and more.
