About

PURPOSE OF JOB: Acting as an ambassador for Hudson Gardens, operate and maintain the G-scale Garden Railroad display and surrounding landscape.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Duties Include:

  • Ensure proper operation of garden railroad by preparing, setting up, putting away, cleaning, and performing light repairs and maintenance for the garden railroad cars, tracks, and model villages.
  • Perform general landscape maintenance for the Garden Railroad landscape. Duties include cleaning planting beds, weeding, deadheading, pruning, raking, and hand-watering.
  • Interact with guests in a professional manner to answer questions, provide directions, and ensure visitor safety.

Shift Information:

  • Weekly commitment preferred (1-2 shifts/week).
  • Shifts are available Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday.
  • Four hours per shift (10 AM - 2 PM).
  • May through October.

Location:

  • Outdoors, onsite at Hudson Gardens.

Attire:

  • Hudson Gardens volunteer shirt (provided).
  • Closed-toe shoes.
  • Name tag (provided).

QUALIFICATIONS:
General:

  • Must be aged 18 or older.
  • Must demonstrate a friendly and welcoming demeanor.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or kneel for up to four hours.
  • Ability to use hand tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Experience with outdoor model trains preferred.
