The federal and state debris removal crews are not allowed on private property so many homes continue to have debris in their yards months after the hurricane. We have begun to coordinate our efforts to cleanup and remove hurricane debris from local homes moving the debris out of private property to an area where the federal and state organizations can pick it up. With your help, we will be clearing yards of fallen branches, trees and general home debris. The next hurricane season is fast approaching and any debris left will pose a risk to the community. Thank you!

Mission Statement
Founded in 2017, in response to the devastating Atlantic hurricane season, our mission is to bring disaster relief to remote, isolated and under-served coastal communities. We address the three core needs of Response, Recovery and Resilience to preserve life in times of emergency and rebuild quality of life in the aftermath. Sail Relief Team is a project of Community Through Colors, Inc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Description
Community through Colors, Inc started as a group of people wanting to bring hope and awareness by using art to reflect the similarities between all humans, despite geographical or cultural location. That initial project showed us many of the things that run deep within the human species and that make us all members of the same community. With this mindset already in place, we felt pulled to respond to the disastrous hurricane season of 2017 and Sail Relief Team was born.
Sail Relief Team focuses on the three core needs to preserve life in times of emergency and rebuild quality of life in the aftermath: Response, Recovery, and Resilience.
Response focuses on the immediate needs of disaster victims including search and rescue, first-aid, sourcing clean drinking water, and facilitating communications. Recovery focuses on rehabilitation following damage done by natural disasters which includes coordinating donations and volunteers to maintain a presence long after the initial emergency has passed. Resilience focuses on preparation against the next disaster including hardening of power and communication infrastructure, and education of the population in ways to work together to help rebuild communities to be stronger for the future.
We are currently deployed in Vieques, Puerto Rico assisting the community as they continue to recover from aftermath of Hurricane Maria and become more resilient against future disasters.
