Burrowing Owl

The Banning Ranch Conservancy needs a volunteer coordinator to help coordinate an ongoing volunteer program for both local and virtual volunteers. The volunteer tasks include website work, social media help, QuickBooks assistance and volunteer coordination.

Good people and organizational skills are important. The work involves attending a monthly meeting on the 4th Wednesday of each month, communicating with volunteers and other Conservancy members via email and phone, and attending occasional Communications and Outreach Committee meetings.

If you can commit 1 - 3 hours a week to this exceptional volunteer opportunity, we would love to work with you!

Mission Statement

The Banning Ranch Conservancy is dedicated to the preservation, acquisition, conservation, and maintenance of the entire Banning Ranch as a permanent public open space, park and coastal nature preserve.

Description

We are working toward the creation of Banning Ranch Park and Preserve, an open space wildlife preserve and public wilderness park encompassing the entire Banning Ranch property. Banning Ranch is located at the mouth of the Santa Ana River in Orange County connecting to Talbert Park, Fairview Park, the Huntington Beach Wetlands and Sunset Ridge Park. It is the heart of the proposed Santa Ana River Park. Despite many decades of oil extraction, Banning Ranch remains a biological treasure, rich in native plants and wildlife, including many endangered and threatened species.

For 15 years the Conservancy has been working with the development permit process to prevent approval of a destructive development on Banning Ranch. At the same time we have pursued a legal course of action and are presently awaiting a ruling from the California Supreme Court.

Everything we do , including outreach, education and political activism, is to save Banning Ranch as a public park and nature preserve.
