Well Farm Rendering

Join us this Earth Day to help transform our community's vision for a thriving urban stormwater farm into a reality. The Well Farm at Voris Field is an urban farming site that will feature raised gardening beds, flowering bioswales, a stormwater forest, and be home to a youth and resident training program. We need your help to fill 100 raised beds as part of our preparation for a June 30 ribbon cutting.

ABOUT THE WELL FARM

The Well Farm at Voris Field is a pilot project in Peoria, Illinois that demonstrates how urban agriculture can reduce runoff and offer a host of social and environmental benefits.
The Well Farm at Voris Field will:

  • Reduce stormwater runoff that is carrying pollution from roadways, parking lots, sidewalks and buildings into the sewer system and causing overflows into the Illinois River.
  • Expand production of locally grown flowers, food and timber.
  • Provide internships and apprenticeships to youth and adults who want to learn agribusiness, hydrology, and other career path skills.
Construction on the farm begins in March 2018 and the Ribbon Cutting will take place June 30, 2018.
Note: This material is based upon work supported by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, under NRCS Conservation Innovation Grant 69-3A75-17-21.

Mission Statement

Getting the most good out of green infrastructure

Description

Fresh Coast Communities, a 501(c)3 affiliate of Fresh Coast Capital, helps cities maximize the benefits of green infrastructure for their communities through public education, planning and workforce development.

Community Education and Demonstration Projects: We provide marketing, workshops, tours, and demonstration projects intended to educate and empower community members to determine whether green infrastructure is right for them and to develop a vision for its impact.

Green Infrastructure Planning: We lead green infrastructure feasibility studies and planning processes with an emphasis on community engagement and plans that achieve the highest levels of social, economic, and environmental impact.

Co-Benefits Programming and Partnerships: We optimize green infrastructure projects to realize the richest "co-benefits" for the community, which can include workforce development, improved health outcomes, stabilizing neighborhood property values, increasing social interaction among community members, reducing crime, and more.

Workforce Development Programming: One of the strongest tangible benefits that green infrastructure programs can bring to a community is developing a new green jobs career ladder. We seek to develop green infrastructure workforce development programs in the cities where Fresh Coast Capital works.
