THE SHEPHERDS CENTER OF CHARLOTTE INC
The Shepherd's Center of Charlotte provides programs and services for people 50 and older. Programs include Adventures in Learning and Adventure in Travel. Services offered are free essential transportation, tax assistance in conjunction with AARP and Medicare counseling through the Senior Health Insurance information Program (SHIIP). Volunteers work with staff to process registrations, help schedule rides for essential needs, and coordinate appointments for taxes and SHIIP. Job duties include but are not limited to, answering phones, updating registration books, putting together name tags, making copies, handling mail, entering information in the computer using MS Office, and interacting with walk-in traffic. Volunteers can sign up for as many or few shifts per month as they wish, either on a regular schedule (like every Monday morning, 2nd & 4th Thursday, etc.) or can schedule monthly as it's convenient. Opportunity can be done virtually as needed.

Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte has been serving older adults in Mecklenburg County for 40 years. By providing programs and services that are specifically designed for this community, we keep older adults mentally stimulated through fellowship & educational programs and support them through our Medicare, medical transportation, tax assistance, and handy helper services.
Shepherd's Center of Charlotte provides services to seniors in many areas. Ongoing programs include Adventures in Learning educational programs,. Travel Adventures travel programs designed with seniors' needs in mind. Computer classes are offered on beginning and intermediate levels, with specialty classes on iPhones, iPads and social media. Our services include assistance with income tax filing. Medicare consulting is offered for those turning 65 and those wishing to change their medication coverage during open enrollment. Volunteer drivers provide medical transportation to ambulatoroy seniors who can no longer drive. Our "handy helpers" do small repairs to help seniors remain in their homes. Shepherd's Center works almost entirely by volunteers.
