ORGANIZATION: Colt Creek State Park

This is an opportunity for self-motivated, hardworking, team player to fill a campground host position at Hontoon Island State Park. The candidate will be required to work independently with minimal supervision. Trailer (pictured) is available for free housing in exchange for volunteering. Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours a week including weekends and Holidays. Must possess and maintain a Florida Class E driver's license. Must be able to successfully complete a background check.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Maintains and cleans the campgrounds. Cleans restrooms, fire pits, and cabins. Removes trash and picks up litter around the campgrounds. Drives campers from the ranger station to the campground when checking in, and from the campground to the ranger station when checking out. Assists with additional projects around the campground as needed.

Volunteers will receive a volunteer T-Shirt, button up shirt, ball cap, and nametag. Workers compensation is available and volunteers receive an annual pass to all Florida State Parks after volunteering 500 hours. Campground host is provided with free housing in exchange for volunteering 20 hours a week. Trailer provided for housing is equipped with A/C, heating, twin sized bed, mini fridge, microwave, and toaster oven, with a picnic table and fire pit outside. Bathrooms and showers are across the road from the trailer.

Description

Colt Creek State Park is a 5,067 acre piece of land that provides opportunities for hiking, kayaking, camping, fishing, and picnicking. The park opened to the public in 2007 and boasts 15 miles of multi-use trails, 3 lakes, 3 natural flowing creeks, 34 campsites, and primitive equestrian, group, and hike-in camping. Located in the Green Swamp Region in Lakeland, FL the water of Colt Creek flow into 4 major rivers: Hillsborough, Ocklawaha, Peace, and Withlacoochee. The park is also home to a diverse variety of wildlife including American Alligator, Whitetail Deer, Bobcat, Sherman Fox Squirrel, Gopher Tortoise, and over 150 species of birds and 74 species of butterflies.
