Hontoon Island State Park is looking for volunteers to help drive the ferry! Must have a boatUS card or be willing to get one with in your first week of hire. Must possess and maintain a Florida Class E driver's license and be able to successfully complete a background check.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Drives the ferry when needed, taking patrons back and forth from the parking lot to the island (approximately 50 yards across the St. Johns River). Gives guests information about the park while driving them to the Island. Provides customer service to park patrons. Helps with general maintenance and cleaning of the ferry and ferry dock. Scheduling and hours flexible.

Volunteers receive a volunteer T-Shirt, button up shirt, ball cap, and nametag. Volunteers are eligible for workers compensation and will receive an annual pass for all Florida State Parks after volunteering 500 hours. Resident volunteer positions are available for people volunteering a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Description

Colt Creek State Park is a 5,067 acre piece of land that provides opportunities for hiking, kayaking, camping, fishing, and picnicking. The park opened to the public in 2007 and boasts 15 miles of multi-use trails, 3 lakes, 3 natural flowing creeks, 34 campsites, and primitive equestrian, group, and hike-in camping. Located in the Green Swamp Region in Lakeland, FL the water of Colt Creek flow into 4 major rivers: Hillsborough, Ocklawaha, Peace, and Withlacoochee. The park is also home to a diverse variety of wildlife including American Alligator, Whitetail Deer, Bobcat, Sherman Fox Squirrel, Gopher Tortoise, and over 150 species of birds and 74 species of butterflies.
